Wednesday the Obama administration rolled out its plan to help up to 9 million homeowner to get more-affordable mortgages. Do You qualify? 

According to the front page article in Thursday's Plain Dealer the plan has two parts. "One part will help consumers refinance loans even if they don't have financial problems but would have difficulty getting a new loan because their homes have lost so much value.  The other will help homeowners who are in trouble because of problems such as job loss, rising mortgage payments, divorce or illness."

                                                                   

 

To Qualify you must:

  • You must live in the home.
  • You can't have been 30 days late in the last year.
  • Your mortgage can't exceed the current value of your home by more than 5%.
  • The loan may be serviced by your bank, but it must be held by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.
  • It's OK if you have a second mortgage in addition to a first mortgage that's 105% of the current value
