Located just 18 miles from Cleveland, Solon’s residents have incredible access to the larger city’s diverse and stunning cultural scene. But the over 23,000 people who call Solon home know that their fair city is the perfect place to raise a family, begin a new business or to enjoy the natural beauty and activities located right at home.
Solon, while smaller than many nearby cities, retains a sense of peace and community that has been its hallmark since its founding in 1820 and incorporation in 1960. Solon’s founders laid out the city in a traditional New England plan, including a public square as its town center. By being one of the first cities to utilize a comprehensive zoning plan, Solon has been able to protect its bedroom communities from industrial activities, while simultaneously developing strong industrial, commercial and retail districts in the town center. This foresight in planning has resulted in wonderful neighborhoods, where homes for sale in Twinsburg and the popular Bentleyville real estate market increase in popularity, while having terrific access to the wonders of Solon’s centrally-located downtown area. Solon also offers excellent options in the luxury home real estate market.
Residents in Solon have 687 acres of city parks and recreational area to enjoy with friends and family, with an additional 360 acres of Cleveland Metroparks, and three golf courses for more options to play. The Solon Community Center is a state-of-the-art facility that offers programs for residents of all ages. The center features indoor and outdoor pools, gymnasium, jogging track, banquet rooms, rock climbing wall and virtually any kind of exercise machine available.
Solon is served by the excellent Solon City School District, which boasts a student to teacher ratio of 14 to 1. Additionally, 99% of the seniors in Solon graduate and 90% go on to college. Higher education opportunities in the Solon area include Case Western Reserve University, John Carroll University, Kent State University, Lakeland Community College, Notre Dame College and Ursuline College. Healthcare in the Solon area is served by the Solon Medical Center and other clinics and specialized healthcare facilities.

The City of Solon offers Automated Rubbish Collection. Automated rubbish collection is a clean and convenient curbside rubbish collection program that allows residents to put ALL their rubbish out in one large container. The rubbish cart holds 95 gallons of bagged rubbish and can easily be rolled out to your curb.
Recycling will still be handled the same way. You may co-mingle your recyclables including glass, aluminum, tin, plastics (1 through 7) and paper products in a clear recycling bag and put them at the end of your driveway on the opposite side from your rubbish cart.
Secondary" Recyclables are picked up once a month. We will pick these types of items up on your normal rubbish pick-up day during the first full week of each month. Items that are considered for secondary recycling are as follows:
Computers
Auto Batteries
Heavy Steel (license plates, bed frames, etc.)
Carpet Padding
Propane Cylinders
Fire Extinguishers
Liquids and solids such as paint, oil, household hazardous waste, pool chemicals, fertilizers, etc.
Brush/yard waste
Yard waste should always be put into brown paper lawn bags for recycling. These bags should be put out on your rubbish day for collection by a separate yard waste collection truck. Brush should be put out at the curb for collecting and chipping. Crews work their way around the City collecting all the brush.

Cleveland Greater Rapid Transportation Authority
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (officially the GCRTA, but historically and locally referred to as the RTA) is the public transit agency for Cleveland, Ohio, United States, and the surrounding suburbs of Cuyahoga County. RTA is the largest transit agency in Ohio.
The RTA Rapid Transit rail system (better known as "The Rapid"), consists of one heavy rail line (the Red Line) and two interurban light rail lines (the Blue, Green and light-rail Waterfront extension line). The bulk of RTA's service consists of buses, including regular routes, express or flyer buses, loop and paratransit buses.
Doing it's part to help Cuyahoga County stay Green, the RTA has equipped all of its mainline buses with bicycle carriers. Each bus can carry two bicycles. Bicycles are also allowed on rapid transit trains (with a maximum limit of two per car) at all times, although operators may refuse bicycles if a train is overcrowded.
